U.S. News and World Report have released rankings of states with the most affordable housing in a recent report. According to USN Staff Writer Casey Leins the list shakes out this way:
10. West Virginia – Median sales price of a home = $136,500
9. Missouri – Average listing price = $204,500
8. Oklahoma – Median rent for a one-bedroom unit = $544 per month
7. South Dakota – SD just announced a new program that will provide $2 million to assist low and average income families with down-payments
6. Kansas – Kansas City’s new home sales increased approximately 7% from 2016 to 2017
5. Indiana – Median value of a home = $134,800
4. Nebraska – Median rent = $769 per month; Median income = $29,132
3. Iowa – Median home value = $142,300
2. Michigan – A new measure passed in Detroit requires certain housing developers to save 20% of their units for affordable housing
1. Ohio – The Ohio Development Services Agency announced in November that it awarded more than $20 million to 30 communities in order to improve and construct new affordable housing
As you can see, Arizona is unfortunately not included in this list.
